Living On The Kindness Of Others
Otavalo Market, Ecuador
The first full day of our Galapagos trip with Natural Habitat Adventuressimilar was spent within a short drive from Quito, Ecuador. The town of Otavalo, in Imbabura Province, is in the lower mountains (elevation 8,345 feet above sea level) and home to the Otavaleño people. Otavalo Market is billed as South America's largest outdoor market and one of the most attractive Indian markets in Latin America. This market dates back to before the Incas. There are actually three markets here: the craft market (where this photograph was taken), which is the most famous and sees the most tourists; the food market, which is mostly local people; and the animal market, which is held one day a week and is almost exclusively for residents.
This gentleman was trying to make a living by relying on the generosity of strangers.
Photographic details: Canon EOS 7D camera w/ EF 16-35 f/2.8 L USM autofocus lens set at 23mm. Flash was used. Camera was on f/2.8 for 1/2500 sec at ISO 200.
