Black Bear
North of Jasper, British Columbia
This image was captured from the van on our last, 58-day, Sea Explorer camping trip from Miami, Florida to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. We were actually in the Canadian Rocky Mountains on our way home. It was late in the afternoon when we spotted this young bear by the side of the road. We stopped to take its picture. It came right up to the van. This bear then stayed around for ten minutes before wandering into the woods. It was our third black bear encounter of the day.
Photographic details: Canon EOS 20D camera w/ EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM lens set at 320mm. Flash was not used. Camera was on f/7.1 for 1/500 sec at ISO 400.
