Charging Elephant
Lobo area in the Serengeti, Tanzania
We spent two weeks in Tanzania and two in Kenya with Cheesemans' Ecology SafarisSchedule. This young male African Elephant took exception to our vehicle and started to charge. His ears were out and he was blaring as he ran forward. He was on Nancy's side of the vehicle so I could be really brave. I assured her "I'm right behind you, Nancy" (which, in English, translates to "Don't move Nancy, I'm using you as a human shield!"). Nancy was determined to get the shot. Fortunately it was a false charge; the elephant stopped about twenty feet away. It sure got our hearts pumping.
